Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re new to therapy or simply curious about how it all works, you’re in the right place. Here are a few answers to common questions to help make reaching out feel a little easier.
-
Counselling provides a space to explore your experiences, understand your emotions, and move toward meaningful change. It can bring relief, confidence, and clarity, though it may also involve working through difficult feelings or memories as part of the healing process.
-
Most counselling sessions are 50 minutes. Extended 75-minute sessions can be arranged upon request, depending on your needs and schedule.
-
Fees follow the BCACC recommended rate for experienced counsellors — typically $150–$165 for individual sessions and $170–$195 for couples or family sessions.
-
Elise is working toward offering direct billing. Currently she is able to offer receipts that include all of the required information to be submitted to extended health plan providers. Please confirm your eligibility with your provider before your first session.
-
A limited number of sliding scale spots may be available. If cost is a barrier, please reach out to discuss current options.
-
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged 50% of the session fee, except in cases of emergency.
-
Yes. What you share in sessions is kept confidential and will not be disclosed without your written consent. There are a few legal exceptions where counsellors are required to report — such as risk of harm to self or others, child abuse, or court orders.
-
Clinical notes are securely stored according to Canadian privacy standards and kept for seven years after counselling ends (or seven years after a minor turns 19). You can request a copy of your file at any time.
-
Elise works on an appointment-based schedule and is not able to provide ongoing crisis support outside session times. If urgent help is needed, please call 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline), 310-6789 (BC Crisis Line), or go to your nearest emergency department.
-
